Glenda Drennen is a native of South Dakota and a former public school music teacher. She earned her BFA in applied flute and music education at the University of South Dakota, Vermillion. Her love affair with watercolor began over twenty five years ago. She has earned signature membership in both the Iowa Watercolor Society and the Watercolor Honor Society-Watercolor U.S.A. in Springfield, Missouri. Many of her award winning paintings hang in private and corporate collections across the United States and abroad.
In describing her work, Glenda notes that her sense of humor and “la joie de la vie” are often reflected in her works. Adding something whimsical or unexpected to a painting provides entertainment and gives it an “attitude”. For Glenda, painting is a unique, exciting second language that finds expression in the way pigments react to fine paper, the serendipitous mingling of wet pigments, the layering of transparent jewel colors, the push/pull of adjacent transparent and opaque pigments, and the lush textures of her own collage papers.
As well as having her work on display at A Piece of Work, Glenda’s work has been displayed at the LeMars Art Center, Pearson Lakes Art Center, Garden Gallery at the Sioux City Art Center, and as part of the Artisan Road Trip. Glenda currently resides in LeMars where she creates paintings in her home-based Watermark Studio.
