Edward Linhardt:
I was raised in Southern Nebraska and spent my summers on the farm with my
grandparents. My father and grandfather were proficient at the coal forge, in
repairing farm equipment, as money was very short in the 1920's. My father gave
me a coal forge after my college years at Creighton University, Omaha, Nebraska.
I have always been artistic
with design and composition of colors and textures. Symbolism is a moving force
in my life and art. The process of discovery and fruition of accomplishment
plays a large part in my journey of creation.
A very good friend and I
started a blacksmith shop in Spirit Lake in the 1980's. My friend died soon after. I now
continue what we started together, making it a spiritual journey for me to
complete what he and I started together.
I have run the blacksmith
shop at the Thrashing Bee in Albert City, IA., for 28 years, attended many
seminars and taught bladesmithing courses to the Nebraska/Minnesota Guilds of
Metalsmithing. In 2000 I took up the art of metal engraving which has been most
challenging. In my later years I have come to understand that I am not making
art
and steel -- it is making me.
Jill Winders
I was born and raised in the
Lakes area. Currently, my husband, three children and I reside in southeast Iowa. Besides being a mother and a full time social
worker, I am passionate about creating jewelry. I believe my creative spirit
was passed down from my father.
Embracing the natural design
and colors of the earth sets the tone for my jewelry.
There is something mystical
about taking fine silver and fusing/hammering it into a new entity. Creating
acid etched designs into copper, brass, and nickel gives it a new existence of
life.
I continue to learn from
other artists in taking classes and exploring with my own designs/colors for
each piece I create. My joy is my journey.
