The Sioux Central School will be showcasing the work of some of their art students at “A Piece of Work Gallery” for the month of April. This is in effort to give the students a sense of what it might be like to be “in the business” so to speak.
The Sioux Central Art Instructor, Rhonda Saunders said, “When I asked if my students would be interested, I was surprised at how many were interested. One thing led to another and all of the sudden we were forming an art club and entering a couple of art shows. My students are very interested in seeing what is out there and want to tour galleries and studios. Needless to say this spring has been very busy, getting the club set up and seeing what is out there that would be feasible to do and see in spite of all the activities the students are involved in. It is a new experience for both the students and myself, and we all have a lot to learn.”
About 15 students, the teacher and a bus driver drove to Spirit Lake from Sioux Rapids to hang the show on Monday, April 2nd. They set up the show in the morning and visited a couple of local art studios in the afternoon. A reception is planned for April 14th from 1:00-3:00. Students will be on hand to answer any questions about their work. Their work will remain on display until the end of the month of April.
